Our History

Don R Johnson originally founded DR Johnson Lumber Company in 1951, with the intention of manufacturing quality wood products in the pacific northwest. DR Johnson Lumber Company is located in Riddle, Oregon – The heart of Oregon’s Timber Country. When DR first started the company, there were only 10 employees, producing approximately 10,000 board feet of lumber per day. Since then DR Johnson grew the company exponentially! DR Johnson expanded the lumber business by founding Riddle Laminators, Umpqua Lumber Company, Prairie Wood Products, Grant Western Lumber Company, Oregon Pine Lumber Company, and The Co-generation plants. DR Johnson Lumber Company is now a second-generation owned and operated engineered wood products manufacturer. In 1967, DR Johnson Wood Innovations, originally named Riddle Laminators, a subsidiary of DR Johnson Lumber, was founded with the purpose of producing glu-laminated beams. DRJ has been a producer of quality and custom glu-laminated beams for over 53 years now. In 2015, DR Johnson Wood Innovations added a new product line, cross-laminated timber (CLT), and became the first manufacturer in the United States to meet the requirements of the Standard for Performance-Rated Cross-Laminated Timbers in the United States. Today, DR Johnson Lumber Company and DR Johnson Wood Innovations continue DR Johnson’s legacy by being a leading force in the Timber Industry.
